COVID-19: FG Approves Engagement Of 774,000 Nigerians To Benefit From Special Work

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, said President Buhari has approved the recruitment of 774,000 Nigerians on a special Public works Program in the country to alleviate the pressure exerted by the coronavirus on the Nigerian masses.

 

The Minister disclosed this during the press conference on fiscal stimulus measure on Monday in Abuja in response to the government effort to contain the shock wave send by COVID-19 on the global oil price.

Mrs Ahmed revealed that each local government across the country is to benefit a slot of 1,000 persons who would benefit from the program.

According to her, N60 billion allowances has been air marked for allowances and operational cost from the Coronavirus crisis intervention fund the program.

Earlier, President Buhari approved a pilot Special public work Program in eight states and to be spearheaded by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

Consequently, the Minister explained that President Buhari has approved the extension of this program to cover the whole states of the federation and the FCT from October – December 2020 and the selected time-frame was to ensure that it was implemented after the planning session.
