The All Progressive Congress (APC) has said that no political government has ever been better without a vibrant opposition who are determined to put the ruling party on check to bring the best out of them, this deepens any democratic setting.
Sadly, the ruling party has mock the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) saying with the attitude of the main opposition party, Nigeria is becoming a one-party state.
The statement was revealed by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC in Abuja yesterday.
Mr. Onilu said that the ruling party which believe in democracy and progressive politics can no longer pretend when the opposition that are expected to checkmate the ruling party has gone to sleep.
The Secretary added that, democracy can only be considered to be fully operational when the main opposition party has refused to relent, saying unlike the Nigeria main opposition the PDP has become irresponsible and a joke.
According to him, the ruling party recognise the importance of constructive criticism that may be targeted at challenging the policies and programs of the ruling party with the sole purpose of providing an alternative way for Nigerians.
However, he taunts the opposition for failing to provoke positively all programs and policies of the APC lead administration so that the ruling party can be on their toes. Instead, he said the PDP has continued to distract Nigerians with post-election lamentation, fictitious stories that amount to nothing but fake news typical of which is “Jubril of Sudan malicious tale”
Meanwhile, Issa-Onilu opined that the so-called Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), which could have filled the vacuum and engaged the APC administration in useful debates over governance, had become “a comedy theatre group and frontline PDP minion”.
In reaction, the PDP said it was very much alive and would not allow Nigeria to become a one-party state.
However, while addressing journalists during a press conference yesterday in Abuja, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, said the PDP would continue to play its opposition role to ensure Nigeria did not become a one-party state.
Ologbondiyan said that the PDP was optimistic that it the party would reclaim power at the Supreme Court, saying “It is strange and totally unacceptable, that the APC or the Buhari Presidency within its wishes and thinking claimed that Nigeria will become a one party state.
