There are indications that some appointees of Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson-led government have resigned their appointments ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.

Dailypost gathered that the Director, Ethics and Compliance, Due Process Bureau, Benjamin Ogbara and Dickson’s Special Adviser on Culture, Chief Natus Zebakame tendered their resignation letters.

Also in the list are Special Adviser on Agriculture, Godspower Ake; serving Commissioner 1 in the Bayelsa State Local Government Service Commission, Berry Negerese; the Special Assistant on Student Affairs, Iniruo Ipogi and Special Adviser on ICT Development, Clever Ebede among others.

Zebakame in his letter thanked the governor for giving him the privilege to serve the government and the people of the state.

He said: “This is, therefore, a formal notification to the government and the people of Bayelsa State as the decision to resign my appointment is entirely personal.”

On his part, Ogbara said he took the decision to resign to enable him go back to his private legal practice. He also thanked the governor, who found him worthy of the appointment and expressed his best wishes to the people of the state.

Some officials of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state told Vigil360 on condition of anonymity that the governor's highhandedness is responsible for the mass resignation. They separately condemned the way and manner the governorship primary election was conducted as well as the forced resignation of the Speaker of the House of Assembly. The claimed that the governor was running a one man show in the state by refusing to heed advise of stakeholders including former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Meanwhile, when the Commissioner of Information, Daniel Iworiso-Markson was contacted, he dismissed as untrue reports that the governor ignored the advice of the former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, and other chieftains of the party during the process that led to the election of Douye Diri as the governorship candidate of the PDP.

"It’s inconceivable that anyone will accuse Governor Dickson of abandoning the advice of elders. It’s most unfair for anyone to wrongly accuse him in such a manner. Those behind such accusation really don’t know who Governor Dickson really is. I know for a fact that the governor had several consultative meetings with leaders and key stakeholders of the party leading up to the process that eventually threw up Senator Douye Diri as the candidate. At every given point in time you will find the governor engaging in regular consultations with every stakeholder in the party,” he added.
