The Senate on Wednesday resolved to investigate circumstances surrounding Mr Anthony Ojukwu’s alleged assumption of office as Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), without confirmation.

Consequently, it mandated the Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters to commence the probe.

The decision followed the adoption of a Point of Order raised by Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams on Tuesday called for strong partnership with northern leaders to address incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen in the South-West and other parts of the country. He stated this when prominent members of the Arewa Council of Chiefs, ACC, in Lagos and top members of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, paid him a courtesy visit. He lamented that the activities of herdsmen remain a serious security threat to the country.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been spotted by security agents in Ghana, according to reports by TheCable.

There has been controversy over the whereabouts of the IPOB leader who was last seen in public in September 2017 before the military launched Operation Python Dance II — apparently to quell the agitation for the breakaway of south-eastern Nigeria.

Since the military raided his home in Aba, Abia state, there has been speculation that he was arrested and might have been killed.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday vowed that it will do everything within its powers to win the governorship elections this year in Ekiti and Osun states. The National Chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun stated this at the opening ceremony of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting at its national secretariat. Mr. Oyegun said it was important for the party to win the elections in those states as they will be an indicator of the outcome of the 2019 general elections.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday attended the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he reiterated the call for unity within the party. He urged the leadership of the party to support Bola Tinubu in his efforts to reconcile all feuding members of the party.

Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday, asked security agencies to take responsibility for failing to stop the abduction of 110 schoolgirls in Dapchi, Yobe, on Feb. 19.

He said that the buck-passing between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force was unacceptable.
