The Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly Nuhu Ayuba Abok has been impeached on Thursday. Abok was relieved of his post over what was described as gross incompetence, financial misappropriation and abuse of office. Rt Hon. Yakubu Sanda representing Pengana Constituency in the state assembly has been elected Speaker by the members as the new speaker. The majority leader of the house in an interview with newsmen says 16 out of the 24 law makers unanimously signed the impeachment of the speaker.

Abok, 34 year old is a first-time lawmaker representing Jos East Constituency. He emerged speaker in June 2019, after a month of political horse-trading among 8 contenders.

He is a graduate of both the University of Jos (graduated in 2011) and the Plateau State Polytechnic (finished in 2007) and is married to Janet N Abok (with two children).
