The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has responded to those who have continued to criticise President Muhammadu Buhari over his diplomatic shuttles in recent time, arguing that former President Obasanjo had travelled more than Buhari.
Oshiomhole made this statement in Abuja on Wednesday in reaction to some critics who are in the habit of attacking president Buhari on his recent trips in consolidating diplomatic ties with the Nigerian allies, saying President Buhari is yet to match his predecessor Olusegun Obasanjo in his all trips.
The APC Chairman faulted the claim of Buhari critic, sighting a book late Gani Fawehinmi wrote where he calculated the number of days Obasanjo spent in foreign lands during his eight-year tenure.
According to him, the Saying that Mr Buhari is involved in too many trips is not correct. Saying it is on record that there is no president in recent Nigeria’s history, since 1999 till today that has travelled out of the country as much as former President Olusegun Obasanjo did.
Osiomhole challenged Buhari critics to check through their old newspaper and playback of some electronic coverage’s, they will come to terms that Buhari’s trip was a child’s play when compared to what Obasanjo did. Gani Fawehinmi (of blessed memory) took time to calculate the number of days President Obasanjo was out of Nigeria, visiting foreign countries. Oshiomhole added.
The APC Chairman also expressed concern over a sudden persuasion coming from the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption PACAC, Professor Itse Sagay, urging him to run for the highest office come 2023.
However, Oshiomhole said he will not reply Prof Sagay through the media over series of allegation levelled against his personality especially the one that concerns the Edo state Party crises.
Sagay was reported to have taunted Oshiomhole for brewing more trouble for the party with his hyper-reactive attitude, saying that he would personally demand Oshimhole removal as Party Chairman if Edo State, the only state controlled by the APC in the South-South, was lost to the opposition.
Meanwhile, Oshiomhole said he would rather call Prof. Sagay on phone or schedule a meeting with him and hear the issues he claimed he had with him, saying he has so much respect for Prof Sagay and he will not to reply him through the media.
