IPOB: Nnamdi Kanu Set To Face The Law, But Gives Condition

Kanu made this submission through his counsel, Mike Ejoifor to the presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako.

Ejiofor informed the court that the application to restore the IPOB leader’s bail is to enable him face the law which failed on April 1, 2019.

In his statement, “We have an application for bail filed on April 1, 2019, the application was served on the prosecution and it is up for hearing.

The Counsel appealed to the court to allow his client bail condition to be restored as well as guarantee his safety, then he will appear for the continuation of his trial.

In his reaction, counsel to the federal government, Labaran Shuaibu opposed to the application saying he was just seeing it.

Shuaibu informed the court to give him more time to file the necessary process where he seeks for adjournment.

While delivering the ruling, Justice Nyako adjourned the case till January 16, 2020 where she said the only way to guarantee Kanu’s safety is for her to keep him in prison custody.

She added that even Justices themselves are no longer safe in the country; therefore, prison is the only safest place for Kanu at the moment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Nyako had ordered the re-arrest of the self-proc laimed leader of IPOB, Kanu.

Nyako gave the order in a ruling after revoking the bail granted to Kanu.

The Judge explained that the court gave the order because Kanu had failed to appear in court after his bail was granted in April 2017.

Nnamdi Kanu was granted bail in April 2017 on health ground after presenting three sureties, a Serving Senator, a Jewish religious leader and a highly respected somebody who must own property in Abuja.

However, on the condition that he will not attend public gathering of more than 10 people and not to grant press briefing which all he violated and the bail was revoked.
