The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to be rocked with fresh crisis as chieftains of the party battles for the position of the national chairman of the party. Following the recent resolution of lingering leadership tussle in the party by the Supreme Court.
The Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee has intensified efforts toward conducting a national convention that will facilitate the emergence of elected national officials that will pilot the affairs of the party, preparatory for the 2019 general elections.
Vigil360 gathered that the party has agreed in principle to zone the office of the president to the north, while the office of the national chairman of the party was zoned to the South West.
Consequently, some chieftains of the party have commenced secret campaigns to clinch the position. Some of the contenders that are reportedly wooing governors and senators of the party alongside Board of Trustee members for the Chairmanship position include the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Fakyode, Chief Bode George, Jimi Agbaje and Prof. Taoheed Adedoja.
Previously, the conduct of national convention and the eventual emergence of party leaders had polarized the party with some aggrieved member staging walkouts or defecting to other political platforms to realize their political ambitions.
