The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released detained former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal. The former SGF is being investigated by the anti-graft agency for corruption where he was released on administrative bail on Friday evening. Lawal was detained by the EFCC on Wednesday morning after he honoured an invitation to the commission’s head office in Abuja, over alleged N223 million contract scam awarded at some Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Yobe State.

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday pardoned sixty inmates serving prison sentences across various detention facilities in the state as part of his 60th birthday celebration. The Governor while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, after directing the release of the affected inmates warned that the gesture was not aimed at encouraging indiscipline.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will end in December 2018 contrary to speculations that the exercise will end on Jan. 31, 2018. Mr Femi Akinbiyi, the commission’s Head of Publicity in Lagos State, said in a statement on Friday “it has come to the notice of the Commission in Lagos State the rumours going round that the CVR would end on Jan. 31, 2018.

Mr. Benedict Peters, billionaire oil businessman and Executive Vice-Chairman of Aiteo Group, has denied social media reports that he is funding the new coalition reportedly being headed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Peters said this in a tersely worded statement on Friday night. He said, “For the record, I wish to state, categorically and unequivocally, that I am not a financier of the said organisation or any socio-political partisan association or political party in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has dismissed an application filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), praying the court to order the Chief of Army Staff to produce him in court. Justice Binta Nyako, delivering ruling on the application on Friday, said that Kanu had failed to prove to the court that he was last seen in the company of the army or any soldier.

President Muhammadu Buhari says income accruing to Nigeria from rising oil prices in the international market will be spent on the development of infrastructure. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said in a release that President Buhari made the pledge on Friday while receiving a delegation from Eni, led by the Chief Upstream Officer, Mr Antonio Vella.
