The United State embassy in Abuja has refuted the allegation that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman and some of his commissioners have been placed under visa restriction.
A source at the embassy who wanted to remain anonymous was contacted, he assured that the report was false, saying such a statement is fabricated and should be disregarded.
The source added, the US government has passed this level of petty politicking to the extent of dragging its name to smear INEC over the 2019 general election as issues relating to the election is still being in court.
Confirming the claim, the source revealed recently, some INEC commissioners were granted visa to go to united state for their personal reasons.
Recalled that the joint forum of over 60 political parties and their presidential candidates in the 2019 election has recently raised alarm over alleged fresh plot orchestrated by a heavily paid “network of blackmailers to smear the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and discredit the nation’s electoral process.”
According to the group,” the ultimate goal of the campaign as identified was to sway the minds of the distinguished justices of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court when the matter eventually comes to the Court to rule against the declarations of results by INEC.
A source from INEC also confided that the report was false and hinted that it could have been planted to embarrass the Commission.
The source added, “This is a lie. We don’t understand why people will go this length to spread false information,”
Contrary to the claim that INEC Commissioner Amina Zakary who was mentioned in the blog post as banned from entering the US just returned from the US a few days ago while Commissioner Lecky is right now in the US on official duties.
