Nnamdi Kanu Enjoys VIP Treatment In Custody, Never Maltreated - DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday denied reports alleging maltreatment of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), who is currently being remanded in one of its facilities in Abuja. According to the intelligence agency the allegations was against its Standard Operation Procedure on the implementation of rights of a suspect, adding that Kanu is enjoying full luxury at its custody. The public relations officer of the DSS Dr. Peter Afunanya while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday said Kanu is being given VIP treatment in its custody contrary to claims that he is being denied basic needs. “On IPOB and the alleged ill-treatment of its detained leader, the Service has, without any fear of contradiction, applied restraint in making public statements over the matter. The reason is simply because it avoids joining issues especially over a matter that is sub-judice. But for the sake of transparency and democratic accountability, the Service has decided to make some clarifications,” He said. “The service denies all the inciting allegations by IPOB and states that Nnamdi Kanu is not, in any way, maltreated in custody. Accusations of maltreatment negate the Service’s Standard Operation Procedure on the implementation of rights of a suspect.

Massive Retrenchment Hit The Military As CDS Order 50 Generals To Quit

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Leo Irabor has ordered about 50 Generals in the Nigerian military to forward their resignation with immediate effect and exit the Military job. The affected officers cut across all the military arms of the Army, the Air Force and the Navy, though the report revealed 25 of the affected officers are in the Army. According to the source, The CDS gave the order today at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. During the late afternoon meeting, the CDS thanked the Generals for the effort they rendered to their fatherland and said it was time for them to leave the stage.

NSA Names Sponsors Of Terrorism, Advises Clerics To Support Security Agencies

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd) has said that some groups are involved in enabling terrorism in Nigeria. He stated that groups like Jama’at Nasr al-Islam Wal Muslimin (JNIM), the Islamic and Muslim Support Group (GSIM), and Islamic State in Greater Sahara (ISGS) were involved in sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria and Africa. This was made known by Monguno on Tuesday during the 14th Workshop of the League of Ulamas, Preachers, and Imams of Sahel countries held in Abuja.

DSS Seeks More Synergy Among Security Agencies

The Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Yusuf Bichi, has called for more synergy among security and intelligence agencies to combat security challenges facing the nation. The DG who made this appeal during the Annual Lecture and Fourth Investiture of the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies (ISSS) on Saturday in Abuja was inducted into the fellowship of the institute, alongside the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Auwal Gambo.
