There is hope for lung cancer sufferers worldwide. A breakthrough research has found that the use of two existing drugs could successfully treat the disease. The study delves deep into the molecular survival kit of lung tumours. Many cancer deaths are driven by the KRAS oncogene. KRAS is an essential gene, but in its mutant form, it is an important step in the generation of many types of cancer.

At least 23 out of the 57 Health Management Organisations (HMOs) have been delisted from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) having failed validity test carried out.

According to the newly inaugurated governing council of the scheme, the HMOs were blocked from having access to the NHIS scheme after they failed to meet up to the minimum operational standard of the program.

NHIS deals with two major components: Health Maintenance Organisations, HMOs and Health Service Providers, HSPs.

Zambia has withdrawn military personnel deployed in December to help clean up the capital and other cities at the height of a cholera outbreak that has killed more than 80 people in seven months, the government said on Wednesday. President Edgar Lungu directed the military to help fight the spread of cholera under emergency measures to contain the waterborne disease, including the closure of markets.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says there is no plastic fish in circulation in Nigeria. NAFDAC Management said in a statement in Abuja that its finding followed “a thorough investigation and analysis of some unsuspected plastic fish samples’’ in its laboratory.

A fresh cholera outbreak in Gashua, Headquarters of Bade Local Government Area, Yobe State has claimed 13 lives.

A source at the Gashua General Hospital told the press that five deaths were first recorded while eight lives were later lost to the disease, making it 13 out of 160 cases reported in the last six days.

The source said the victims were brought in from Sabon Gari, Katuzu, Zango, Lawan Musa and Sarkin Hausawa, which were among the areas worst affected by the outbreak.

The United States Government said it is planning to conduct the largest HIV survey in Nigeria in June 2018. The Survey according to the National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) would produce a more accurate data to enable the government and relevant agencies channel public resources toward addressing the issue.
