An expert has revealed how prevention research and use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), will help improve the health of the populace through achieving reduced new HIV infections.

Dr James Anenih, the head of Research at the National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA), spoke on the status of PrEP which are drugs that people take to prevent them from getting HIV infection.

According to Anenih, about two years ago the PrEP demonstration study was launched in Nigeria, he explained that PrEP is a procedure for people who do not have HIV but who are at substantial risk of contracting the virus; to prevent HIV infection they take a pill daily.

Jigawa LG Targets 62,521 Children In Polio Immunisation

The Miga Local Government Council authority of Jigawa says no fewer than 62,521 children would be immunized at the on-going polio immunisation in the area.

The latest suspected case was reported on Friday in the northwestern province of Equateur, which Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga visited on Saturday with officials from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and U.N. Children’s Fund (UNICEF), according to Reuters.

Nurses Donate Drugs, Sanitary Pads To Girls School In Abuja

Nurses and midwives under the umbrella of Igala Nurses and Midwives Association (INAMA) on Friday, made donation of sanitary pads and drugs to students of Federal Government Girls’ College, Bwari, Abuja.

While presenting the items, President of the association, Mrs Christie Awunor, said the gesture was a medical outreach organised by the nurses as part of activities to commemorate the International Nurses Week.

Mrs Awunor said that the donation was aimed at promoting the health of the girls in the school while encouraging them to always use pads during their periods.
