Microsoft co-founder and world's second-richest man, Bill Gates has revealed what he wants for Christmas.

In a Reddit thread earlier this year, Gates revealed two requests for his Secret Santa: A contribution to Rotary, a service organization that provides humanitarian services, to help end polio as well as any book recommendations that the person has read and found particularly interesting.

Gates has been a longtime advocate for the eradication of polio. In the same thread, he admits that this is one of his biggest focuses right now.

Train carriages have plummeted on to a motorway in Washington state, causing "multiple" fatalities, police say.

The train derailed and the carriages fell on to the I-5 highway below.

Images from the scene show emergency services treating people on the ground. It appears that at least four carriages have left the track; one of them is upside down on the highway.

Chileans are currently voting in a presidential runoff between conservative former President Sebastian Pinera and centre-left candidate Alejandro Guillier, a senator and popular TV journalist. The poll according to Aljazeera opened on Sunday at 11:00 GMT and will close at 21:00 GMT with the final results being expected on Sunday night.

The United States blocked a Security Council resolution Monday at the United Nations that would have rejected President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s vote marked the Trump administration’s first Security Council veto. All 14 other members supported the resolution, underscoring the U.S. isolation on the issue. Haley said she cast the veto “in defense of American sovereignty and in defense of America’s role in the Middle East peace process.”

The United Nations Security Council will on Monday vote on a draft resolution that the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has no legal effect. The resolution if passed will insist the recognition of Jerusalem by U.S. President Donald Trump be rescinded. The one-page Egyptian-drafted text, which was circulated to the 15-member council on Saturday, does not specifically mention the United States or Trump.

United States Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson has directly rebutted North Korea's representative to the United Nations, rejecting his claim that the US is to blame for tensions on the Korean peninsula and declaring that he and the White House are in lockstep on policy.
