President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Kabore has reportedly been detained at a military camp by mutinying soldiers, following gunfire around the presidential residence in Ouagadougou on Sunday night. The report of his detention came on Monday, a day after soldiers staged mutinies at several army barracks, and later several armoured vehicles of the presidential fleet riddled with bullets holes and abandoned in the street. Kabore's whereabouts are unknown as of the time of this report and the government has denied seize power by the army.
This comes days after 11 soldiers were arrested for allegedly plotting a coup against President Kabore.
Protesters came out in support of the mutinous soldiers on Sundays, ransacking the headquarters of Kabore's political party causing the government to declare a curfew from 2000 GMT to 0530 GMT as well as closing down schools for two days.
Meanwhile, State television had described the sound of gunfire at military barracks as the actions of a small few disgruntled soldiers rather than a widespread fight or coup attempt.
Also, there have been disruptions to internet service, causing apprehension among residents in the capital, as no clear statement has been released by either side.
