Chinese consumer electronics company Meizu has unveiled its new range of smartphones, the 15 series, and it seems to be taking a stand against current trends in phone design. There are three phones: the 5.95-inch 1440p OLED Meizu 15 Plus, the 5.46-inch 1080p OLED Meizu 15, and the 5.46-inch 1080p LCD Meizu 15 Lite.

HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, announces that the Nokia 7 plus is now available to buy from accredited dealers nationwide for an estimated N146, 000 from penultimate Monday. A smartphone with striking design, the Nokia 7 plus combines innovative imaging capabilities and powerful performance for up to two days with one charge.

Google has started the global roll-out of its new Chat messaging service, which is designed to replace SMS text messages on Android phones.

Chat has features such as group texts, videos, typing indicators and read receipts, which are not available when sending SMS texts.

Chat will be integrated with the default messages app on Android phones.

Robots at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore have completed a task many humans dread, assembling flat-packed IKEA furniture.

Filtering through pages of instructions and a jumble of screws and bolts to build the low-cost Swedish furniture may soon be a thing of the past given advances in technology, said researchers at the city-state's NTU.

It took the scientists up to three years to program the robots, which are made of arms, grippers, sensors and 3D cameras.

Motorola is introducing its newest range of Moto G and Moto E smartphones today, which will sell in the $100 to $300 range. While these aren’t high-end phones, they’re all important ones for Motorola: the Moto G remains Motorola’s best seller, and the company says it’s the top seller worldwide in its price class; the Moto E, which sells for slightly less, apparently isn’t far behind it.

Microsoft is releasing its Windows Defender antivirus scanner for Google Chrome this week. The software giant has released a Chrome extension that includes a list of malicious URLs that will be blocked in Chrome. The extension is designed to stop malware being loaded onto PCs from malicious sites, and to prevent phishing emails from being successful.
