Doha 2019: Ese Brume Wins Nigeria First Medal With 6.91m At The 17th IAAF World Championships

Ese Brume picked up Nigeria’s first medal at the Athletics World Championship in Doha with 6.91 mark (+0.3 wind) in the Long jump event, earning her a Bronze after being ousted on Silver by Ukraine’s Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (6.92).

The 17th IAAF World Championships which ended in Doha on Sunday 6th of October has seen Nigeria win her first medal with Ese Brume making it to the podium after winning the bronze medal in the Women’s Long Jump event.

Brume, who is the reigning African Long Jump champion, was leading after two attempts leaping to a distance of 6.91m before she was overtaken by Malaika Mihambo and Maryna Romanchuk who jumped 7.30m and 6.92m respectively.

Ese Brume Ese has now become the second Nigerian since Blessing Okagbare (silver, at the 14th edition of the World Championship in Moscow, Russia.) to win a medal at IAAF World Championships hence making her the first athlete in six years to win a medal for Nigeria at the World Championships.

Tobi Amusan after coming fourth in the 100m Hurdles final has become the first Nigerian to make it this far after over 20 years in Hurdles.
