The flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinibu has disclosed that he has selected his running mate and the name is in his pocket book but will soon make it known.
Tinibu stated this when he paid a thank you visit President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. In his company were the Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the MD/CEO Oando Nigerian PLC, Wale Tinibu.
While speaking to a journalist shortly after the meeting, Tinibu applauded President Buhari for playing neutrality and providing a level playing ground during the just concluded APC primary election, describing the President as a true democrat.
He recalled that long before the political process, President Buhari had promised he would support all democratic processes in the emergence of a successor in the progressive party and that has come to pass as the election has been won and lost.
In Tinibu's statement, “He promised the whole country and the world that he will build a legacy of transparency and consistency; the legacy of level playing ground for all the aspirants. He will be committed to democratic principles and values and he did so.
Tinibu added, “He didn’t endorse anybody, he didn’t impose anybody, and he did not at any time attempt to tinker with the process of this election to favor one tribe or the other. He was steadfast, he was trustworthy, and he was dependable…
He explained that “If he had to give it to anybody yesterday, it is not my victory that is important; it is the process and the management of that election that gave it to President Muhammadu Buhari"
When asked what will be his selling point during the campaign for the 2023 general election, Tinibu said, “I am brilliant, I am experienced from the private sector to public sector and ready to hit the ground running same day and not mess up the legacy of progress and honesty that is left behind for me and handed over to me by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He revealed that the APC family will only have a limited time to celebrate as he intends to hit the ground running, they have to get to work to ensure victory for the party come 2023.
Meanwhile, when asked about the selection of his running mate, Tinibu said, “I won’t tell you that. That is my right; it is in my pocketbook.”
