The first son of Nkemba of Nnewi, Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Jnr, on Wednesday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party's grand rally ahead of the Anambra state governorship elections billed to take place on Saturday.

The rally was attended by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, the APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, APC Candidate Dr. Tony Onwoye, twelve state governors including the Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige among others.

Chief Emeka Ojukwu Jnr in his address said he decided to join the APC in order to follow his father's footsteps. He recalled that after the return of his father from exile, he joined a national party in order to connect Ndigo with the centre, having recognized the danger of isolation. He accused politicians in All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) of using his father's image to further their selfish interests stressing that none of them has the interest of the common masses at heart.

He called on the Igbos to support the APC to bring development to the region.
