The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions, on Tuesday, issued a warrant of arrest on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, and 17 others for refusing to appear before it to answer questions on their operations. Fred Agbedi, a member representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bayelsa state, who led the motion said the arrest warrant became inevitable following the attitude of the invitees.

According to Agbedi, the CBN Governor Cardoso and 18 others were sent invitations on four different occasions, but they failed to appear for the hearing, thus, the need for action to be taken.

The member also said the CEOs should be brought to appear before the committee by the Inspector General of Police through a warrant of arrest after due diligence by Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house.

In his submission, Micheal Irom, chairman of the committee and member representing All Progressives Congress (APC), Cross River, said that the IGP should ensure the CEOs were brought before the committee on December 14.

Earlier, the petitioner, Fidelis Uzowanem, said the petition was premised on the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) report of 2021.
