The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad has resigned his office, citing health grounds for his decision. President Muhammadu Buhari swore in Muhammad as CJN in July 2019, after his predecessor, Justice Walter Onnoghen was suspended over alleged corrupt practices.
According to reports, arrangements are being made to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, as the acting CJN by 2 pm today.
Justice Ariwoola was born on August 22, 1958, and was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal before his elevation to the Supreme Court in November 2011.
