The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele and past President Goodluck Jonathan have failed in submitting their presidential nomination forms to the All Progressive Congress by the deadline on 13th May 2022. Although no reason was given for the duo's sudden loss of interest in the presidential ticket, a source alleged that the issue surrounding the ex-president continuing in the race is that some key loyalists of the former president, who could have given him the nod to go ahead with the race, had since become convinced that it would not be possible for the APC to concede the ticket to him, given the mood in the party and the body language of its leaders, hence his opting out. More so, Emefiele was said not to have taken any action after his lawyer sought the interpretation of the court on the electoral law.
Meanwhile, 25 others have met the deadline, in preparedness for screening and primary-come 30th May 2022, which includes Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; President African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina; former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Others are former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former Minister of Niger Delta Development, Sen. Godswill Akpabio; former Imo State governor, Sen. Rochas Okorocha; and former Ogun State governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.
Others who complied with the deadline are Pastor Tunde Bakare; Cross River State governor, Prof. Ben Ayade; his Ebonyi State counterpart, Gov. Dave Umahi; Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; Minister of State, Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; former Senate President, Sen. Ken Nnamani; Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; Jigawa State Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and former Zamfara State governor, Sen. Ahmed Yerima.
