President Buhari has written to the National Assembly informing lawmakers that he will be presenting the 2021 N13.09 trillion budget at a joint sitting on Thursday, October 8, 2020, by 11 am, for necessary approval. The Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, on Tuesday, at the resumption of plenary after a two-month annual vacation said, President Buhari is requesting the audience of lawmakers in both chambers for the presentation of the budget.

Senator Lawan said the budget proposal as usual will be subjected to scrutiny by relevant committees of the upper legislative chamber in the month of October, during which heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will be expected to defend their estimates.

The Senate is expected to consider and pass the 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper FSP before President Buhari submits the 2021 budget.
