Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has sacked all political appointees in the local government councils. Those affected were Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Secretary to Local Government and Supervisory Councillors.

The sacking was contained in a three-paragraph letter released on Monday evening.

It was gathered that the sacking of local government political appointees was supposed to affect only those in Edo North senatorial district where the present national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole hailed from, but it was later changed to the entire local government areas across the state.

Earlier this month, Governor Obaseki had sacked over 300 political appointees in what was seen as a way to sweep dissidents out of his administrations.

Although, about four council chairmen, Eghe Ogbemudia (Egor) Hon Patrick Aguinede, (Esan West) Alhaji Yakson Musa in Etsako West and Alhaji Aremiyau Momoh of Etsako East have been suspended for alleged corrupt activities.

An official of the All Progressives Congress in the state said the development may further deepen the internal crisis rocking the party in the state. He argued that the move by the Governor targets officials loyal to the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshimhole whom he had since fallen out with.

The official who craved anonymity further said Obaseki may have sensed that his days in the party are numbered hence his decision to take his political future in his own hands.

Just last week, Oshimhole raised alarm that his residence in Benin, the state capital was under attack by some political thugs suspected to be loyal to the Governor.

Although the State Commissioner of Police said no such attack was recorded, Oshimhole's aides claimed that the attackers were chased away by some APC youths.
