The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal has cautioned opposition politicians to refrain from reckless statements intended to instigate civil unrest in the state.
The call followed a statement credited to the State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Alhaji Isa Sadi. He had claimed that his party would soon retrieve 'at all cost" its governorship mandate allegedly stolen by the PDP. He had also described as untrue allegations by the Governor that federal might was deployed against him during the election. He concluded that the people of the state had since lost confidence in Tambuwal.
Governor Tambuwal, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Alhaji Yusuf Dingiadi urged the leadership of the APC to desist from peddling rumors and propaganda on social media platforms.
“The APC leaders have formed a habit of spreading falsehood on social media platforms. Government will soon begin to take legal action unless the politicians instigating the media propaganda and hate speech desist.
“Their activities, if left unchecked, will undermine the peace of the state. Sokoto is a peaceful state. We will no longer allow propagandists to toy with its peaceful co-existence,” he said.
“Since the party has already filed a case at the tribunal, it should allow the tribunal to decide. It should not pre-empt the tribunal. It should wait for its verdict and keep the peace while doing so. Alternatively, APC should start preparing for 2023 election, instead of fanning embers of disunity using the social media because the people of Sokoto have spoken through the ballot box.”
