President Muhammadu Buhari will today visit Maiduguri, Borno State capital, in an effort to boost the morale of Nigerian troops fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the North East.
The trip was necessitated by the recent attack on the troops by the insurgents which led to the killing of several soldiers in Melete village.
The President had earlier programmed to visit his hometown in Daura, Katsina State, on a five-day casual leave. He, however, called off his trip to Daura for Maiduguri.
Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmed, had on Monday announced on his twitter handle of the President's impending visit to Maiduguri.
During the visit, it's expected that the President would declare open the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) annual conference scheduled to hold at the Borno State Government House.
The COAS conference, which will attract the top brass of the Nigerian Army, was earlier slated for Benin City, Edo State but was canceled following the attack by insurgents in Borno State.
The President, as gathered, would use the opportunity to interact with the troops. This will, in turn, boost their morale.
