Biafra: Kanu Is Talking Nonsense

Elder statesman Edwin Clark has condemned the Biafra agitation led by Nnamdi Kanu whom he described as talking “nonsense’’. “When Kanu talks about Biafra, he is talking nonsense. We do not want a second war,’’ Clark told Chairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt, Sen. Shehu Sani, who visited him on Tuesday in Abuja.

The three hundred million naira suit against the Inspector General of Police by Suspected Kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike popularly known as ‘Evans’ before the Lagos State Federal High Court has been adjourned till Sept 21. The sitting vacation Judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court, Lagos adjourned the matter after holding that there was no more urgency for the suit to be heard during the vacation.

Emerging reports indicate that three persons have been killed in Kardi village, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi state following the outbreak of Diarrhea. The Community Health Officer at the Primary Health Centre located in the area, Abdul Karin Abubakar confirmed the incident.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called off weekly Federal Executive Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement that the meeting was called off due to the inability of the government to prepare for the weekly meeting.

Recession: Senate Excited Over Improvement In Economy

The Senate, on Tuesday, applauded the report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) that showed Nigeria’s economy finally staging a comeback. In a statement signed by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, the Senate emphasized that it was truly commendable that after five consecutive quarters of contraction, the Nigerian economy grew by 0.55% in the second quarter of 2017.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) said it has generated over N2 trillion from January to July through tax collections. FIRS made the disclosure in its progress report from January to July. The report which was made available to NAN indicated that it had projected an aggregate revenue of N4.94 trillion in the 2017 budget with oil revenue expected to contribute N1.98 trillion.
