The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that he was unaware that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris flouted his directive that he should relocate to Benue state to halt incessant killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Recall that President Buhari on Monday, while addressing Benue stakeholders during his one-day official visit to Benue state denied knowledge of IGP's absence from the state despite his earlier directive.
The statement elicited reactions from politicians especially those in opposition. Governor Fayose of Ekiti state who reacted to the statement mocked the President's perceived ignorance of happenings in the country, stressing that the situation was unfortunate.
Responding, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the President was being sincere stressing that his sincerity should not be misconstrued to mean that he is not in charge.
“What the President said with regard to the IG shows the level of sincerity of Mr. President.
“It takes a very honest and courageous man to say what the President said and I am sure the President is ready to deal with the situation arising from that.
“If the opposition see things differently you can’t blame them. They are looking for anything, just anything to bounce back to relevance but Nigerians are wiser.”
