The Federal Government may have dumped its recent decision to establish cattle colonies across the country as part of efforts to end the incessant clashes involving herdsmen and farmers. The decision was contained in recommendations made by the 10-man working committee constituted by the National Economic Council to end attacks by herdsmen.
According to a source in the Presidency, the Osinbajo-led committee agreed that possible attempt by the government to go ahead with the policy could heat up the polity especially as activities gain steam ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The Committee said the workable solution lies in the various states fashioning out independent modalities to addressing the issue, albeit with support from the federal government.
The Committee further resolved that decisive military action be taken against the bandits behind the killing.
The source added that already the Military have been ordered to wade into the matter while other agencies have been directed to beef up security in other areas, especially in troubled spots.
