President Muhammadu Buhari has signed three bills recently passed by the National Assembly. They are the National Intelligence Agency Pensions (Establishment Act), the Air Force Institute of Technology of Nigeria (Establishment Act) and the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy (Establishment Act.)
Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang announced this to State House Correspondents.
Giving an insight into what the new laws seek to achieve, the Presidential aide said: “The President has assented to these bills and they have been reverted back to the National Assembly and other appropriate authorities. The Air Force institute of technology law seeks to formally establish the institute and then state what they will do for the purpose of training personnel in aeronautics and all aspects of aircraft maintenance, such that the trained officers can be useful in the civil aviation industry even after retiring firm the Air Force.
“The Nigeria intelligence Agency NIA Board will establish the Pension Board for the agency and then exit staff of the NIA from the contributory pension scheme and the Pension Reform Act and their pension is going to be regulated exclusively.
“The Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy Act will now give a legal backing to the College, which already exists in Enugu. The law will now give the institution the power to award degrees, diplomas and certificates and also have a Council,” he said.
The Senior Special Assistant also thanked the leadership and members of the National Assembly for working hard on passing the 2018 budget before the end of this year.
