The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has debunked the information being circulated on social media that the rivers state government has demolished a central mosque at Trans-Amadi area of Port Harcourt, saying it was a calculated attempt to fuel religious disharmony.
While addressing Journalists on Biambo Street by Mami market Junction close to Rainbow Estate, Trans-Amadi in Port Harcourt, Wike disclosed there was no mosque located at the said location, and therefore nothing was there to demolish.
Wike added, he received calls from prominent Nigerians asking him about the fake news being circulated online. Pointing to the area, Wike said everybody can see there was no Mosque at the said location.
He said some fickle-minded individuals who wish to propagate fake news and set up religious bad blood claimed that a mosque was demolished at this place when in actual sense there was no mosque in the place; saying is a concocted story by mischief-makers.
Governor Wike disclosed that some group of persons started erecting illegal foundation at the disputed land, even though they had no approval to embark on any construction work.
“They commenced erecting of an illegal structure, when there was no approval to erect such from the State Government. The persons who started the foundation had already dragged the State Government to court on the disputed land. And the Rivers State Government won the case."
The governor urged the Muslim community in Rivers state to show him where a mosque was demolished in the state. He advised them to resist making themselves available to be used by bad politicians in peddling false stories against the government.
