2023: Southern Governors Settles For A Southern President

Governors from the Southern States of the country have demanded that the region produces the country’s next president. The governors, cutting across different political parties made their stand in a six-point communiqué issued after a meeting at Ikeja, the Lagos state capital on Monday. The governors unanimously agreed that the presidency seat be alternated between the northern and southern region, adding that the next president must come from the South in the spirit of equity and fairness.

Breaking: Judicial Workers Suspend Strike

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its nationwide strike which lasted for over 2 months. The suspension of the strike action was reached during the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, with the union set to resume work on Monday.

President Buhari Approves The Take-Off Of National Senior Citizens Center

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate take-off of the National Senior Citizens Center which will be headed by AVM M.A Muhammad as chairman, and Dr. Emem Omokaro as Director-General. Also approved was the constitution of a 12-member board to oversee the affairs of the center. The appointments and take-off were in line with the provisions of section 16 (2) (d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended which mandates the State to provide for adequate social services and improves the quality of life of the elderly.

APC Extends Buni-Led Caretaker Committee Tenure

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee for another six months. The Director-General Press and Media Affairs to Governor Buni, Mamman Mohammed disclosed this in a statement on Friday. Buni visited President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock, where he presented a report of the committee to him. Speaking after receiving the report, Buhari commended the Buni committee and said the APC has been revived, energized, and repositioned for its national convention and future elections.

Gov. Matawalle Dissolves Cabinet, Sacks Other Principal Political Appointees

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State has approved the dissolution of the State Executive Council with immediate effect, the Special Adviser Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa said. The Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, and the Deputy Chief of Staff have also been relieved of their appointments, as well as all Chairmen and members of the State commissions and Boards of various agencies. The sacked executives have been directed to hand over to the most senior director in their various ministries.

INEC Assures Nigerians Of Commitment To Conduct Anambra 2021 Election

Despite the spate of arson and destruction of property belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Yakubu Mahmoud has promised Nigerians that the Governorship election in Anambra will hold in 2022. The Anambra governorship election is billed to hold on November 6, 2021, but the South-East has been a hotbed of insecurity with gunmen attacking police facilities, burning INEC buildings, and destroying electoral materials. Mahmoud, who was represented by the National Commissioner of the commission, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola gave the assurance in his remark at the opening of the National Retreat On The Validation Of The Draft INEC 2022-2026 Strategic Plan (SP) And Strategic Programme Of Action (SPA) held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. Mahmoud noted that the commission is committed to discharging its statutory responsibilities of improving and sustaining democracy in the country.
