Chairman Police Service commission, Musiliu Smith, Resigns

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Musiliu Smith has resigned his position. It was revealed that the Board of the Commission asked Smith to resign following the ongoing crisis with the Nigeria Police Force and he accepted. The spokesperson of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed the resignation of Mr Smith to Daily Trust on Wednesday. Smith, former Inspector General of Police, has reportedly handed over to another member of the board, Clara Ogunbiyi, a retired Supreme Court justice, who represents the judiciary.

Many Bandits Neutralized By Vigilante In Katsina

At least five bandits have been killed, weapons and motorcycles recovered when vigilante groups in Batsari community of Katsina state engaged in heavy gun fight with bandits who came to attack them. It was said the fight lasted for about three hours. Several local sources, who revealed details of the incident to journalists on condition of anonymity, because of concern over their safety, said members of the vigilante group surrounded the bandits after they stormed Batsari Local Government headquarters around 4:00 p.m. conveyed on motorbikes and armed with AK 47 rifles.

DSS Accuses Mamu Of Aiding, Abetting Terrorism

The Department of State Services (DSS), on Tuesday informed a Federal High Court, Abuja, that detained Abuja-Kaduna Train Kidnapped Victim negotiator, Tukur Mamu, was part of an international terrorist network who used the cover of journalism to perpetrate crime. The security agency has stated that its preliminary investigation established the offences of “logistics supplier, aiding and abetting acts of terrorism,” against terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu. The agency, in an affidavit in support of its ex-parte motion marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1617/2022, filed before Federal High Court Justice Nkeonye Maha, in Abuja, also alleged the investigation established act of terrorism financing against Mamu. Following the submission, Justice Maha, ordered that Mamu be detained for the next 60 days, adding that if not done with its investigation within the period, the agency can come back to the court to renew the detention order.

Governor Soludo Condemns Attack On Ifeanyi Ubah’s Convoy

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state has condemned in strong terms, the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy on Sunday night at Enugwukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state. Governor Soludo’s condemnation which is contained in a statement by his Press Secretary Christian Aburime, reiterated his stance on wiping out every act of criminality in the state. He described the attack as the “last ditched-effort of a sinking boat” by criminal elements in the state, while reassuring the people that all security agencies were on full alert to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous attack who would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
