Lagos Building Collapse: Commissioner Resigns, As Death Toll Rises

Meanwhile, The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Dr. Idris Salako, has resigned. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced this in a statement on Monday.
The statement read in part, "This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies. "Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours. "The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are."

His resignation comes barely 24 hours after a seven-story building collapsed killing a few people.

The death toll from the Lagos Building collapse has risen. A total of six bodies have been recovered from the site according to emergency officials.

There are fears that more bodies may be recovered from the site before clearing is completed.

Salako now former commissioner for physical planning and urban development told journalists that despite official orders to halt construction at the site, the developer declined to yield.
