In a bid to enhance the admission process at tertiary institutions, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the automation of the admission process by training selected staff from tertiary institutions across the 6 geo-political zones on the Interactive e-Brochure and e-Syllabus System (IBASS) platform. The training programme was launched on Monday via video conference by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who stated that from January 2023 the Board would no longer receive any physical letter from any institution except through IBASS.
He said, “We discovered that we spend our time attending to letters from some major stakeholders of the Board, notably, National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). Apart from these stakeholders, we also receive correspondence from 890 institutions across the country.
“The regulatory agencies often appeal to us for approval of new programmes and accreditation of programmes and what we receive from institutions is essentially about admissions and registration or accreditation of new courses or quota issue.
“With this platform, if NUC approves admission quota, it would be centralized in such a way that as soon as you see ‘approved’, everybody will see it and there is no need to write to JAMB”.
According to him, the new platform will make the process faster and easier, adding that it would provide smooth communication between key stakeholders in the education sector and urged tertiary institutions to take advantage of the platform.
