The Non-Academic Staff Union on Education ( NASU), Imo State chapter, has requested the federal government to approve a special salary scale for its staff, on the ground that her salary is insufficient to upset their bills.
On Thursday 26th March the staff of the Union commenced a protest to drive home her demand.
Reasons for their protest was for the federal government to order the approval for the extension of the retirement age for teachers from 35 years to 40 years, More so the federal government should elongate the span of retirement from 60 to 65 years, owning that 35 years retirement age is not enough.
This was revealed by the Assistant Secretary of the union in the state, Margret Ezekiel. She pled that the federal government includes the non-teaching staff in the implementation of its special salaries packages.
In quoting "our demand is simple and just. We ask that the Federal Government do the needful by offering a better salary package for us because we deserve it.
"The government should look at us with a human face and appreciate the vital role we play in institutions of learning. We are not daring the government but we ask appealing to her to do the needful.
"We, therefore, request the government to include the non-teaching staff in the implementation stage of these packages, because most of the non-teaching staff are professionals and possess equivalent certificates and experience like their teachers' counterparts and equally play vital roles in graduating pupils and student."
