Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Enugu, Enugu state were seen in jubilation mood after receiving the payment of N33,000 new monthly minimum wage as there copper allowance by the Federal Government. The Youth corps members whom have been long expecting the new allowance have expressed happiness when speaking to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Enugu on Friday.

Some of them disclosed the new allowance come to them as a shock, saying when they started receiving the credit alert from their individual banks with the new rate on Friday.


The corps members who acknowledged that they received the money as their New Year package from the Federal Government, saying it was like a dream come true as one of the corps members, Joseph Odichi spoke to the NAN correspondence.


In his statement, “We are really grateful for this administration especially President Muhammadu Buhari for fulfilling its promise especially at this crucial stage of the year. In fact, this is another Good Friday for us.


“We also thank the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig-Gen. Ibrahim Shuaibu, for making it possible after confirming the implementation few weeks ago,” he said.


Meanwhile, they pleaded with their DG to look for a way to settle the arrears as it will go a long way in alleviating their hardship especially the Batch B corps members who will soon round up the service year.


Another corps member identified as Miss Arowosegbe Busayo said she still could not believe it but thanked the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for the kind gesture.


“We have been expecting to receive this N33,000 since April last year but we thank God that finally it has been paid.


According to her most of them could not sleep last night when the news broke out though some banks are yet to pay.
She revealed in the past, some administrations have made such promises but could not fulfil them, but this has changed their perception about government.
