Endsars: CNN Lied About Its Purported Investigation – Onochie

Lauretta Onochie, Special Assistant to President Buhari on Social Media, has chid the Cable Network News (CNN) over its investigative report it released yesterday concerning the Lekki shooting. Onochie was reacting to the report said the CNN lied to the international community and shall note that Nigeria as a government cannot be intimidated.

In her statement, she tweeted, “I’m not upset that CNN lied to the world about my nation, Nigeria. I’m upset that they think we are so stupid that we will swallow their lies. We won’t be bullied into believing a lie!”

CNN, an American based media house claimed despite denial by Nigerian authorities, and the military insisted that no live rounds were used against the armless protesters of the EndSARS.

Accordingly, on October 20, soldiers marched to the Lekki toll gate at about 6:45 pm and opened fire on the protesters.

After a series of claims and counter-claims by some section of the public, Army denied using live rounds on the protesters, instead said, blank rounds were the ammunition used.

During inquiry of the panel for investigation inaugurated by the Lagos state government, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Ibrahim Taiwo, Commander 81 Div told the panel that the Military was called upon by the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Taiwo stated that the Army was mobilized to forestall the protest from becoming violent.
