As part of efforts toward decongesting detention facilities in Cross River State, the state's Chief Judge, Justice Michael Edem on Saturday freed one hundred and twenty two (122) inmates serving various jail terms in Afokang Prison located in the capital city. Speaking with newsmen after granting the inmates amnesty, Justice Edem said the reason for the release was to decongest the prison.

Human Right Activist and Lagos based lawyer, Femi Falana has said that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a legacy of the military government and a partially illegal squad which needs to be completely overhauled.

Speaking on Channels Television Breakfast Programme, Sunrise Daily, on Tuesday, Falana said armed troops among SARS operators need to be removed and the policemen among them need reorientation as they operate like they are in a military government.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has denied Maryam Sanda, the woman who allegedly killed her husband, bail. The court which arraigned her alongside her mother, brother and one other person on Thursday, said it was not inclined to grant her bail because no cogent reason was brought forward by the defence.

The Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Bako Abdullahi has blamed the prevailing instability, insecurity and challenges rocking Nigeria's democracy on corruption. Bako stated this on Monday in Lokoja while speaking on the sideline of the 2017 International Anti Corruption Day with the theme, ‘United against corruption for development, peace and security.’
