The United Nations High Commission for Refugees, UNHCR says, it will prevail on the Cameroonian authorities to quickly resolve the internal crisis in its Northern Province to enable its citizen’s currently taking refuge in Nigeria return back to their country immediately. The Representative of UNHCR in Nigeria and Ecowas, Antonio Jose Canhandula gave this indication when he led a team of the Agency to the two refugee camps set up by Benue State Government for the Cameroonian refugees in Abande, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State in North Central Nigeria.

Ivory worth $469,800 smuggled from Nigeria has been seized in Thailand, customs officials said on Friday, January 12. Three elephant tusks and 31 fragments of ivory weighing a combined 148 kilograms were seized at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Kulit Sombatsiri, director general of the customs department told a press conference. The smuggled goods were shipped from Lagos to Bangkok on an Ethiopian Airlines flight on December 20.

Police in Lagos have apprehended two of the suspected robbers that invaded the home of popular Nigerian Comic Actor, John Okafor also known as Mr Ibu during the weekend.

According to report, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, Chike Oti confirmed the arrest and that the two suspects had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), for further investigation.

The leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the South East, Alhaji Gidado Saddikie has accused Nigerians of politicizing the violent clashes between farmers and herdsmen, resulting in avoidable lost of lives and properties across the country. Saddiki who was reacting to the various statements made by some individuals after the recent killing in Benue state called on the government to approach the matter with all sense of sincerity devoid of sentiment, politics and religion.

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians in all parts of the country that it will not condone further attacks by herdsmen. Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), gave the assurance on Monday at a meeting with some state governors in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
