Yellow Fever Outbreak: Kastina Record 36 New Cases, Begins Mass Vaccination

The Kastina State Government has recorded fresh 36 cases of Yellow fever in two of its local governments; Kankara and Danmusa LGAs.

This was declared by, Mannir Yakubu, the Deputy Governor of the state during the flag-off of vaccination against the disease during the weekend, saying this was part of the containment measure being taken by the state government to forestall the spread of the disease.

 

He said the vaccination is targeting seven million people to be vaccinated, represented by Dr Kabir Mustapha, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, disclosed “Yellow Fever is a serious infectious disease transmitted by specific kind of infected mosquitoes”.

 

He urged resident to avail themselves for the vaccination as it is free of charge and is meant for people between the age of 9months and 44 years.

 

In his goodwill message, Musa Rabiu, the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF Head of Communication specialist assured to support their collaborative effort with the state government towards health and educational challenges.
