A 500kg World War Two bomb has been found at George V Dock on Sunday during planned work at the east London airport.

The airport has been shut all day and all flights cancelled, affecting up to 16,000 passengers, officials said.

The airport said if the attempt to remove the device is successful all flights will run as normal on Tuesday.

Britain’s Serious Fraud Office on Monday charged a unit of Barclays over alleged fraud linked to emergency fundraising from Qatar at the peak of the financial crisis a decade ago, the bank said. Retired Pope Benedict XVI, has disclosed that he is now preparing for his death as he physical strength is slowing waning in a letter sent to an Italian newspaper on Tuesday. Pope emeritus Benedict XVI turns 91 in April. Benedict, born Joseph Ratzinger in Germany, retired in February 2013, citing the strains of old age. He was the first pope to retire in almost 600 years.

A British judge has upheld the outstanding arrest warrant for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange despite his requests last month for it to be dropped. Judge Emma Arbuthnot dismissed calls from Assange's lawyers at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court, saying, "I am not persuaded the warrant should be withdrawn," Bloomberg reports.
