Few days after former President Olusegun Obasanjo issued a strongly worded statement calling on President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, both leaders met at the opening session of the 30th African Union Summit at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was gathered that the meeting was the first after Obasanjo issued the statement.
A source in the Presidency told Vigil360 that although some stakeholders had advised President Buhari to visit Obasanjo after the statement was released to address issues contained therein, others told the President to wait and meet the former President in Addis Ababa.
It is unclear whether both leaders held a closed-door session, but pictures of both leaders at the Summit have since emerged.
Recall that Obasanjo had accused President Buhari of performing below average in his letter, scoring him low in the areas of security, corruption and economy among others. He concluded his statement by advising the President to shelve his second term ambition and contribute his quota from the sideline.
