Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, while on a working visit to different power projects in Lagos confirmed that the Federal Government has placed strategies in place that will boost electricity generation capacity by 90%, hence moving from 3,500 megawatts to 6,500 megawatts within the next three (3) to six (6) months. The minister also noted that this increase will not only improve the power supply nationwide but will also satisfy the increasing energy needs.
Adelabu, during the working visit on Friday 22nd March, inspected the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) headquarters, the two 20 MVA injection substations at Randle, Surulere, and also the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) monitoring facilities. He praised EKEDC for its achievements over the past decade and emphasized the importance of continuous improvement in the power sector to effectively drive economic growth and development.
During his visit, the Minister discussed the challenges facing the power sector. He emphasized the need to prioritize generating baseload power and gradually transitioning to cleaner energy sources to meet the country's energy needs effectively. The Minister acknowledged the persistent complaints about power outages and urged stakeholders to work collaboratively to address these challenges and improve service delivery.
Adelabu also emphasized on the importance of proactive engagement and efficient operations by Distribution Companies (DisCos) to effectively address consumer needs.
