Defending champions Plateau United opened their 2017-2018 campaign with away win in Lafia, against Nasarawa United. After a quiet first half, the game came to life in the 50th minute when Nasarawa's Nojeem Olukokun blasted a chance wide much to the displeasure of the Solid Miners supporters.

Misery would come their way as the reigning NPFL champions took the lead through Raphael Ayagwa with three minutes to go on the clock to ensure Kenny Boboye’s men starting their title defence in the best possible fashion.
