FIFA has confirmed that Neymar presented a counter-claim to FIFA over the controversial payment of a bonus by Barcelona, after the player signed a new contract with the club before joining Paris Saint Germain. Recall that on Tuesday, Barcelona launched a legal battle against their former playmaker over alleged breach of contract. The club requested the player to refund about nine million Euros earlier paid to him as bonus.

Meanwhile, Neymar has insisted that his former club is yet to pay an outstanding bonus. Marca reports that the bonus refers to 26 million euros that was agreed last year when he renewed his contract with Barcelona until 2021 and which was then blocked by the Catalan club after his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.

Speaking on the matter, N&N Consultoria which has been engaged to represent the player said "In relation to the bonus owed through the contract signed in 2016, that is contractually binding, declared unpaid by FC Barcelona, the sportsman has formally started the procedure to seek what is owed via the competent body."

The matter according to FIFA is still being studied.
