The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the Akwa ibom Northwest Senatorial District, Essien Udim Federal constituency and the Essien Udim state Assembly in the supplementary election held on Saturday. The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) returning officer for the Senatorial district, Prof. Robert Dode declared this today returning Mr Christopher Ekpenyoung of the PDP as a duly elected winner of the supplementary election.


In his statement while declaring the winner, Robert said, Mr Ekpenyoung having scored 134,717 votes against Mr Godswill Akpabioof the APC who has earlier announced his withdrawal, scored 83,820 votes.


Meanwhile at the Essian udim federal constituency, Mr Nsikak Ekong of the PDP having satisfies the condition and scored the highest vote was declared winner of the poll with 45,366 votes.


Also for the state Assembly, Mr Esse Umoh of the PDP was declared winner of the election having scored 18,999 votes against his opposition, Mr Nse Ntuen of the APC who scored 7,108 votes.


NAN reported that the Appeal Court had directed INEC to conduct re-run election in the state Northwest Senatorial district, Essian Udim federal constituency and also a supplementary election in Essen Udim state Assembly.


However, Mr Ini Okopido, the State Party Chairman of the APC had on January 24, announced his party’s withdrawal from the pool.


Akpabio alleged that Mr Mike Igini, the State INEC Resident Electoral Officer has already pitched tent with the PDP.
