A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adamu Maina Waziri has on behalf of the PDP debunked the rumour making rounds that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had a secret meeting with Ahmed Bola Tinibu in France. Tinibu, the presidential flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, APC was speculated to be in a political romance with the outspoken Rivers State Governor, just as Wike was similarly accused of hobnobbing with the Labour Party (LP) by the supporters of PDP.
Since the emergence of Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta state Governor as a running mate to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Wike has set tension in the main opposition party.
A panel constituted by the PDP while deliberating on who shall be the running mate to Atiku narrowed on Wike, but Atiku went ahead to pick Okowa as running mate instead, a singular action that provoked Wike, and if care is not taken, Wike might play a spoiler in the whole game.
On Wednesday while speaking on National Television, the Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom accused Atiku of being selfish after declining the recommendation of a committee he set up himself to select a running mate for him.
In a similar manner, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose suddenly came up with a southern presidency song two weeks after the PDP has finished the primary election.
More so, yesterday, a chieftain in the APC, Joe Ibokwe, via his official Facebook handle claimed that Wike went for a secret meeting with Tinibu in France, the claim that has set PDP on its toes with some members speculating that the defection rumour accredited to Wike might be true.
However, reacting to the claim of Joe Ibokwe, Waziri, who was former Minister of Police Affairs during the Jonathan Administration said he was with Governor Wike in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday, and there is no way he could have been in France.
Waziri said,” Governor Wike came directly from Nigeria to Istanbul, Turkey. He did not go to France as speculated. This is to debunk the propaganda of the APC through Igbokwe. This is fake news orchestrated by the sinking ruling party which is on its way out, ” he said in a phone chat today.
Meanwhile, when he was asked what took them to Istanbul, Waziri said, “What is your business with our mission? We came to rest after our national convention. Of course, as a political animal, I do politics anywhere I find myself.”
