Contrary to reports that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would today (Thursday) receive the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff who had indicated interest to rejoin the party, the Former Borno State Governor has been asked to rejoin the party at his ward.

Sheriff was billed to storm the national headquarters of the party in Abuja by noon on Thursday with his supporters, where he would have declared for the party.

Reports had indicated that the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun and other members of the National Working Committee of the party had perfected plans for his arrival.

However, it was gathered on Thursday that none of the NWC members was at the party secretariat as planned, a development that indicates that they may not be favourably disposed to his return.

Addressing the issue, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi in a statement issued to newsmen directed Sheriff and other people seeking to join the party to do so at their various wards.

“Our attention has been drawn to reports in some sections of the media that the former factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress today at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

“While we are aware of such intentions, we wish to restate our earlier position that anyone who wants to join the Party should do so at the ward level.
“We are happy to welcome new members to our party, but membership cards are not issued at the Party National Secretariat.”
