President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved the release of $1bn for the procurement of security equipment to assist the prosecution of ongoing war against insurgency in the North East.
The approval was reportedly granted during a closed-door meeting involving the President and all Service Chiefs.
Speaking to State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting, the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali said the President directed all security agencies to intensify efforts aimed at securing the release of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi schoolgirl still being held by Boko Haram because she allegedly refused to renounce Christianity.
